RQYS MAINSHEET 2026

 Rodney Bay We crossed the finish line in Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia, at 2053hrs on Saturday 6 December 2025. Elapsed time: 13 days, 12.5 hours. Ninth yacht home overall. Fourth multihull. Average speed 8.7 knots. The Yellowbrick tracker recorded 2,812 nautical miles. Our plotter showed 2,818 — among the shortest distances sailed by any boat in the fleet. Fuel consumption totalled just 143 litres, most of it for battery charging. The main engines accumulated only ten hours. The generator worked 40 hours. Our four objectives before leaving Las Palmas had been wonderfully simple:  Be safe.  Have no breakages.  Have fun.  Go fast. Looking back, we achieved every one. Our only breakage? A metal thread coming out of a tweaker cam cleat. Repaired at sea. Oh, and the potential, lost pin in the furler. Reflections More than 100 yachts were still crossing when we tied up in Rodney Bay. Some had yet to reach halfway. Our result reflected more than simply a fast boat: careful preparation, excellent routing, experienced crew sharing watches, a modicum of good fortune and a yacht that lived up to Outremer’s reputation as a genuine performance cruising catamaran. Special congratulations to Wouter and Petra aboard Idefix, who completed the crossing double-handed with their eightyear-old daughter, finishing only two days behind us after overcoming significant gear damage: extraordinary! n An Atlantic crossing may not be on everyone’s bucket list but, having now completed my first, I can confidently say it is one of sailing’s truly great experiences. n Mainsheet 2026 Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Yearbook 72 ARC Feature
