At every opportunity—on and off the water— they generously offer their encyclopaedic knowledge, making it an absolute pleasure to volunteer with them. They are praised for striving to achieve the very best race management for the sailors, the Volunteer Race Management team and of course our Club. Experienced in regatta operations international and national, it is easy to see why they excel when regattas are held at RQYS. The Healeys have also spent many hours contributing to the Etchells BBQ and volunteering their time in the background. Their time and dedication during ‘FINN- tastic February’ was beyond par. Sue did the RC flags and made sure that all of the Rhibs and the race boats had the right flags—and she would make them if they didn’t have any (including course flags). During the Finn regattas they worked out with ‘Patto’ just where all the competitors were parking on the rigging lawns for the sail measuring and, again with Patto, swinging the boats to be weighed. There was only one lay-day between the first and second regattas, and David and Sue would re-set and prepare for the Worlds on that lay-day. David is sworn to compete for the rest of his on-water life (racing Etchells) against his lifelong mate Noel ‘Patto’ Paterson! Congratulations and thank-you, David and Sue, for all your amazing efforts! n Brendan Casey RQYS SAILOR OF THE YEAR Award Trophy: Hardy Brothers Jewellers Trophy and Seiko Watch from Wallace Bishop Jewellers Brendan’s return to both the Finn and ILCA classes in recent years has demonstrated that he has lost none of the determination, skill, or competitive spirit that has defined his career. His enduring commitment to excellence was reinforced in 2026 when he took out first place in both the Finn Australian National Championship and Finn World Masters in February, adding another world title to an already distinguished sailing résumé.
