Enthusiastic yachties take the afternoon off work and enjoy a friendly race around the local islands of Moreton Bay. \nIf you’d like to join the fun\, head to the RQYS Bistro from 1100 hrs to enter your yacht or register your interest as crew. Our WAGS Team will do their best to place visiting sailors on a yacht\, but please note that spots are strictly subject to availability on the day and cannot be guaranteed. \nCrew Registration in the RQ Bar\nAfter signing in at main reception\, head to the RQYS Bistro and make yourself known to the WAGS Coordinators. They will try to match you with a vessel if there is a space available. \nPlease be aware: \n\nPlacement is prioritied as follows:\n\n\nRQYS Members\nMembers of another Australian Sailing affiliated yacht club.\nSail Pass holders\n\n\nThe number of crew spots depends entirely on how many boats are entered and whether skippers have spare space.\nOn some days\, demand may exceed availability\, meaning you may not be placed on a vessel.\n\nSailing Duration\nDepending on the weather and your assigned vessel\, WAGS races generally run for 3–4 hours. \n\n\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nA bottle of water\nClothes you don’t mind getting wet\nNon-marking shoes (to protect the deck)\n\nWhy WAGS Matters\nWAGS is an important pathway into sailing\, giving newcomers the chance to experience the sport in a relaxed but competitive environment. Many participants go on to complete learn-to-sail courses or become RQYS members. It’s also a great way for experienced sailors without their own boat to get regular time on the water\, building skills and enjoying the camaraderie of our sailing community. \n

DESCRIPTION:Wednesday Afternoon Go Sailing (WAGS) happens every Wednesday of the year (weather permitting). Enthusiastic yachties take the afternoon off work and enjoy a friendly race around the local islands of Moreton Bay. \nIf you’d like to join the fun\, head to the RQYS Bistro from 1100 hrs to enter your yacht or register your interest as crew. Our WAGS Team will do their best to place visiting sailors on a yacht\, but please note that spots are strictly subject to availability on the day and cannot be guaranteed. \nCrew Registration in the RQ Bar\nAfter signing in at main reception\, head to the RQYS Bistro and make yourself known to the WAGS Coordinators. They will try to match you with a vessel if there is a space available. \nPlease be aware: \n\nPlacement is prioritied as follows:\n\n\nRQYS Members\nMembers of another Australian Sailing affiliated yacht club.\nSail Pass holders\n\n\nThe number of crew spots depends entirely on how many boats are entered and whether skippers have spare space.\nOn some days\, demand may exceed availability\, meaning you may not be placed on a vessel.\n\nSailing Duration\nDepending on the weather and your assigned vessel\, WAGS races generally run for 3–4 hours. \n\n\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nA bottle of water\nClothes you don’t mind getting wet\nNon-marking shoes (to protect the deck)\n\nWhy WAGS Matters\nWAGS is an important pathway into sailing\, giving newcomers the chance to experience the sport in a relaxed but competitive environment. Many participants go on to complete learn-to-sail courses or become RQYS members. It’s also a great way for experienced sailors without their own boat to get regular time on the water\, building skills and enjoying the camaraderie of our sailing community. \n

SUMMARY:Power Cruising - Easter Cruise to Venus Pools

THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING.  \n  \nCruise along the Brisbane River through the City reaches\, passing the University of Qld\, then further along the river into the suburbs of Western Brisbane\, onto more rural land of Moggil and Mt Crosby. \n  \nDay 1 Good Friday April 3rd \nDepart from Green Island at 8am Heading to the Brisbane River entrance beacons. We will make our way up the Brisbane River\, passing through Newstead\, then the city reaches. \n    Note: \n      Channel 12 is VTS Brisbane Port Control \n      Channel 13 is Brisbane City Council Passenger Ferries \nIt is ideal to stick to the centre of the river\, as this allows the ferries to move. Please allow approximately 300 metres between our vessels while travelling up the Brisbane River. \nAfter passing under the Green Bridge at Dutton Park there will be no more ferries.  We will have a lunch break at anchor at Yerongapilly. We will travel along the River to Carrington Rocks Yacht Club\, where we will spend our first night at anchor. \n  \nDay 2 Easter Saturday April 4th \nDepart Carrington Rocks\, continue along the River to Karalee. On leaving the city and suburbs we will encounter open spaces of the countryside and the greater western suburbs of Brisbane then Ipswich. This area is often used by water skiers\, so we need to keep a good watch out for this activity. We will also pass over the cable of the Moggil Ferry. Depth to be confirmed but I am led to believe the cable is at a depth of 2.7 to 3 metres.  We then travel approx about 6 nautical miles to our next overnight anchorage at Kookaburra Park/Taylor’s Nook.  We will have a potluck gathering ashore. Potluck is when a plate from each vessel is brought ashore to share. \n  \nDay 3 Easter Sunday April 5th \nAfter a good night’s sleep\, a short dingy ride to Venus Pools. Departing 9am to have an exploration\, look around at \nthe pools. Depart anchorage after lunch for return journey. \nAfter travelling for 3 hours anchor at River Reaches. \n  \nDay 4 Easter Monday April 6th \nDeparting about 9am moving along River. For those who need to work on Tuesday we will say goodbye for your safe \ntravel home. For those lucky enough to stay out longer we will anchor off Mud Island. If tide is high enough we \ncan travel along the creek to the Rain Forrest in the centre of Mud Island. Past member Keith Spencer (now RIP) \ncollected the seeds to re-establish this forest that was original cut down to build the infrastructure of \nthe penal colony on St Helena Island. \n  \nDay 5 Tuesday April 7th \nDepending on weather depart Mud Island for the Sand Hills 10am. Meet ashore for BBQ Lunch. Ocean Spirit carries \na fair size portable BBQ to take ashore. \nEnjoy a social time ashore after a busy cruise to Venus Pools. \n  \nDay 6 Wednesday April 8th \nBreakfast onboard your boat before a social meet ashore.
