Three nights of parties and festival Of course, a regatta designed by sailors, for sailors, is only as good as its onshore hospitality. We’ve always said the social side is just as important as the racing, which is why the entry fee essentially included a bottle of rum from each crew to stock the daily “BIrd Cage” prize pool. From the vibrant chaos of “A Night in Rio” and our incredibly successful “Legends on the Lawn” to the Texan Country and Western Night at Wynnum Manly Yacht Club, and the “Great Passion Pop Reckoning” the fleet went running down to the Riptide and, as predicted, were promptly taken away to the dark side. Basically, the off-water antics were spectacular. Looking back, it’s wild to think we started this circus with just 10 boats without sponsors and any onshore events. Now, we’ve got a massive fleet with the onshore antics drawing a crowd of more than 400, backed by the talented team within the RQYS Sailing, Marketing, and Hospitality departments. This year we had incredible involvement with our naming rights sponsor, Porsche Centre Brisbane, which joined our incredible list of returning sponsors and supporters. David Crosdale, Dealer Principal at Porsche Centre Brisbane, said the partnership with Brisbane Race Week had exceeded expectations. “We’re a brand that’s about fulfilling dreams, innovation, sportiness and passion, and we could feel that passion throughout the event,” he said. The idea behind Brisbane Race Week was always simple: a brilliantly varied day of racing on Moreton Bay, then a thorough debrief over a few bevvies — and the luxury of (hopefully) waking up in your own postcode. No flights, no accommodation and minimal annual leave gymnastics. Just a proper Race Week in our own backyard.
